Further Development of Blood Transfusion Services in Selected Areas of Northern Laos

The project goal is to develop blood services in four selected provinces in Laos in terms of coverage, quantity and quality of blood donations in a sustainable manner. This will also contribute to an improved Lao health system. Specifically:
  • LRC/NBTC capacities in voluntary blood donor motivation, recruitment and retention are strengthened and consolidated, focusing in particular on female donors.
  • Appropriate infrastructure and equipment to provide for sufficient, timely and safe blood supply is installed and is in use.
  • Operational and management capacities of LRC/NBTC are improved to ensure sustainable delivery of quality blood services and strategic orientation of national blood services.

The initiative involves the Lao Red Cross National Blood Transfusion Centre and designated district and provincial services (Kenthao and Xienghone in Xaiabouly Province; Houn in Oudomxay Province; Sing in Luang Nantha Province; Pa Oudom and Thonpheung in Bokeo Province).
