Improving Child Nutrition in Remote Rural Communities in Attapeu Province, Lao PDR

This project aims to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition amongst children under-five years old in remote communities of southern Lao PDR by: improving behaviours related to health and nutrition and food practices; providing village women with the skills to manage community malnutrition; supporting poor families with agriculture inputs and livestock as well as providing them with safe drinking water; and training government staff to support communities’ access to food and water.

Impact: Contribute to reduction in under five mortality in Lao PDR

Outcome: Reduce prevalence of malnutiriton amongst children under five years of age


1. 144 VWNF from 36 communities in Attapeu Province are capable of managing malnutrition, especially amongst WCBA and children under 5 years

2. 1600  households in 36 communities in Attapeu have increased access to food and drinking water

3. One Provincial and three District Agriculture and Forestry Offices in Attapeu have increased capacity to improve communities’ access to food and water
