Description

Confluence is recruiting a water and sanitation officer based in Luang Prabang

Confluence is a French non-profit organization specialized in access to water and sanitation in rural areas of Lao PDR. Mostly active in Luang Prabang, Confluence is currently implementing the DEAR Water II project (2024 – 2027), in partnership with the Luang Prabang Province Department of Health.

The DEAR Water 2 project main objective is to improve rural communities’ well-being through safe and sustainable access to water. The project includes four main activities: 1- construction and governance of village water systems, 2 – sustainable management of water catchment areas, 3 – improved sanitation and hygiene practices, and 4 – capacity building of local authorities. The project is implemented in 12 villages in three districts : Chomphet, Phonxay, and Xieng Ngeun.

In order to support the implementation of hygiene and sanitation activities, Confluence is looking for one motivated Lao national to fill the position of WASH officer, based in Luang Prabang.

The WASH officer will support the following activities:

  • Hygiene awareness raising and monitoring in target schools;
  • Promotion of water potabilization systems;
  • Development of safe sanitation in the village.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Implementation field activities related to hygiene and sanitation.
  • Assist project team in the coordination and communication with partners.
  • Contribute to the strategic thinking of the water and sanitation team.

Main tasks

  • Implement hygiene awareness campaign and monitoring in target schools;
  • Conduct awareness campaigns on safe water use and sanitation in the villages;
  • Implement marketing events to promote the use of potabilization systems (water filters and drinking water big bottles);
  • Support community mobilization on latrines uses (sanimarketing)
  • Conduct field surveys to (i) collect socio-economic data in target areas required to prepare and implement water and sanitation projects and (ii) to monitor the projects’ implementation;
  • Implement other community mobilization activities
  • Assist in the organization of trainings with partners and communities.
  • Update project monitoring tools.
  • Contributes to the preparation of project’s reports.
  • Assist for meetings, workshops, training, surveys, bidding procedures;

Qualifications requirements

  • Education: at least bachelor degree related to social sciences or rural development or environmental sciences.
  • Experience: at least 2 years in similar awareness raising, local communication, rural development
  • Language: Good spoken and written English (Hmong or Khmu language are an asset)
  • Computer: Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other graphic design softwares.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in the field with communities from rural villages
  • Ability to drive a motorbike in rural areas;
