Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) is a 52-bed acute pediatric hospital situated in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. It is operated by a New York based non-profit organisation, Friends Without A Border, which is dedicated to providing high-quality and compassionate healthcare to children in remote areas of Southeast Asia. In 2015 the hospital was opened on the same campus as the Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital and has been developing its services since then.
LFHC is a teaching hospital offering emergency, inpatient, outpatient and surgical services to neonates and children throughout Northern Laos. Limited on-site radiology, pathology and pharmacy together with a homecare program complement these clinical activities. A major goal of this hospital is to promote clinical learning and professional development of the local staff such that key positions in the hospital are progressively filled by a well-trained and dedicated local workforce.
Duties and responsibilities
Radiologists are an important part of the health care team and play an important role in providing compassionate and high-quality care for children at LFHC, in line with the hospital’s mission. The Radiologists’ primary responsibilities are to conduct ultrasound, X-ray, C-arm and CT scan studies on patients when ordered by a physician, and report the result.
Radiographer Job Duties:
- Maintains radiology equipment and computer systems.
- Liaise with the Biomedical Engineer, Medical Director, or Director of Administration, as appropriate, to proactively troubleshoot and solve supply chain or technical problems with any radiology equipment or computer systems.
- Conduct ultrasound, X-ray, C-arm and CT studies in a timely and efficient manner whenever studies are requested by medical staff.
- Provides the most clinically useful image, while always attempting to minimize the risk of radiation to the patient, family, and medical staff.
- Responsible for reporting on the results of the X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and C-arm studies.
- Discuss any challenges, concerns, or personnel conflicts with the Medical Director so they can be addressed before they become worse.
- Actively participate in educational activities to improve radiographic skill, medical knowledge, and English fluency.
- Provide education and training to less experienced staff whenever possible.
- Always act in a manner that aims to improve patient care, teamwork, and the hospital mission.
Qualifications:
- Radiologist (a physician specializing in radiology)
- Good English language skills preferred
- Personality: Good teamwork, hardworking, honest, flexible, compassionate.
