Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) is a 52-bed acute pediatric hospital situated in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. It is operated by a New York based non-profit organization, Friends Without A Border. In 2015 the hospital was opened on the same campus as the Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital.
LFHC is a teaching hospital offering emergency, inpatient, outpatient and surgical services to neonates and children. A major goal of this hospital is to promote clinical learning and professional development of the local staff such that key positions in the hospital are progressively filled by a well-trained and dedicated local workforce.
LFHC is very strict on child protection and will thoroughly check the background of individuals regarding any history of child abuse.
Position Summary
This is an entry-level position to work as a junior doctor in pediatrics. Successful applicants will receive all the necessary training for this job. They are expected to work in the outpatient, inpatient, emergency and neonatal departments. Doctors work 192 hours per month and overtime is payable if this is exceeded. Shifts range in length from 8 – 13 hours and include night shifts. Doctors are sometimes expected to work at weekends and on public holidays. As a junior doctor, clinical support, supervision, teaching and guidance is always available on site, from senior Lao doctors and expatriate staff.
LFHC is a teaching hospital and some protected teaching time is scheduled every month. Successful applicants are expected to commit to participate in hospital training programmes and other educational and extracurricular activities. Progression to more senor positions is possible, depending on performance and academic achievement. The hospital is the provincial pediatric unit for Luang Prabang province and has supported 1-2 doctors to attend the pediatric residency programmed in Vientiane each year.

Qualifications
- Completed a medical degree and is a qualified medical doctor
- Able to communicate in English
