Communication Assistant

Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding.

CRS has been active in Laos since 1994, delivering programs in school feeding, literacy, inclusive education, and nutrition. These initiatives integrate early grade literacy development, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), school gardens, and community mobilization into a comprehensive support package for rural schools. In partnership with Alive & Thrive, CRS Laos also works to improve maternal and child nutrition through advocacy, health system strengthening, and community engagement. Looking ahead, CRS is launching two major projects: Early Childhood Education – Play, Learn, Achieve All Yearlong (ECE-PLAY), a four-year initiative (2025 – 2029) funded by the EU and CRS in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES), and Empowering to Act for Circular Transition in Plastics in Lao PDR (EMP-ACT), a four-year project (2025–2028) funded by the EU and CRS to support national efforts to reduce single-use plastic consumption and prevent plastic pollution, aligned with the National Plastic Action Plan 2024 – 2030.

Job Summary:

The Communications Assistant for CRS Laos works closely with the Communications Manager to support and coordinate, assist with product content, and monitor CRS social media platforms, particularly Laos Country Program (FB) page to ensure strategic alignment of communication, consistent messaging, and strong brand identity. The Communications Assistant also provides support to coordinate communication activities including producing communication materials to support the Communications Manager. This includes stories, multimedia, and reports, as well as ensuring CRS compliance with donor branding and marking requirements.

Roles and Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and drafting content topics and stock content for the Facebook page. Manage, monitor, and interact with the page.
  • Help establish and maintain relationships with local media Plan and support communications campaigns for country projects.
  • Assist in organizing and collecting high-quality photos and videos to support communications initiatives.
  • Work closely with the program team, especially Field Officers for Country Program content to use in communication materials.
  • Support Operations and Country Program teams in producing creative materials as needed.
  • Assist in writing, designing, and managing the production of creative and compelling communication and marketing materials: stories, photos, videos, fact sheets, brochures, etc. for various audiences, including donors, governments, partners, media, and others as required.
  • Assist in developing processes, manuals, and training for Country Program staff and partners on communications, marketing, and media to strengthen program development.
  • Help the team prepare and submit required documents for licenses, such as drone operation permits, photography consent forms, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in social media design, communications, multi-media design, or related studies; experience in INGOs is helpful.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully disseminating information to a variety of target audiences.
  • Ability and desire to work well with diverse employees and customers in a cooperative and friendly manner.
  • Having a work experience with Marketing, Social Media systems will be well-regarded,
  • Additional education may substitute for some experience.
  • Computer skills required and Experience in Adobe Creative Suite such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign or in Canva is strongly desired.
  • Highly proficiency in social media applications and experience in content production.
  • Excellent interpersonal or teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems, and graphic design software.
  • Experience in photography and videography, with a strong awareness of cultural sensitivity and respect for subjects’ dignity and privacy.

Travel Required

The job holder will be based in Vientiane Capital or Savannakhet Province and must be able to travel away from the duty station for approximately 20% of the time.
