Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) is a 52-bed acute pediatric hospital situated in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. It is operated by a New York based non-profit organisation, Friends Without A Border, which is dedicated to providing high-quality and compassionate healthcare to children in remote areas of Southeast Asia. In 2015 the hospital was opened on the same campus as the Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital and has been developing its services since then.
Position Summary:
The Biomedical Engineering Manager plays a key role in ensuring availability of adequate functional medical equipment for the hospital clinical team. His/her role covers the selection, evaluation, maintenance and repairs of the medical equipment and general electronic devices within the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) to ensure the highest level of care is provided.
Main duties are below:
- Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Coordinates the activities of Biomedical engineering staff for timely and accurate completion of preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Oversee test equipment calibrations.
- Conduct routine quality assurance checks of medical equipment.
- Report faulty equipment and liaise with suppliers and repair centers to fix the equipment.
- Teach medical and nursing staff as to the proper use and care of medical equipment.
- Responsible of equipment statement and inventory
- Oversee the design, implementation, and operations of the hospital equipment maintenance systems.
- Actively participate in biomedical capacity development projects
- Ensures accurate record keeping of department activities.
- Oversee service contract with external technical support providers as needed.
- Assist the evaluation and need of medical technology for Capital Acquisition process.
- To advise upon new equipment purchases with respect to their care and maintenance.
- Other Tasks assigned by your line manager.
As a hospital manager you are expected to:
- Provide staff direct supervision, staff performance reviews and annual leaves management.
- Creates and oversees Quality Improvement measures.
- Oversee and ensure appropriate day-to-day operations.
- Design department strategy and set goals for growth.
- Maintain budgets and optimize expenses.
- Set policies and processes.
- Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally.
- Oversee recruitment and training of new employees.
- Evaluate and improve operations and financial performance.
- Direct the employee assessment process.
- Prepare regular reports for upper management.
- Ensure staff follows health and safety regulations.
- Provide solutions to issues.
- Always promote compassion and equity with our patients, their families and our hospital team members
- Close collaboration with other hospital managers
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, e.g., Biotechnology, Engineering, Biomechanics, Manufacturing engineering or related sector
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience
- Very good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong planning, supervising, and leading skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative.
- Strong communication skills, Analytical and Problem-solving skills.
- Be honest and trustworthy.
- Excellent learning and adaptation skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Preferred:
- Experience working in the hospital, clinic, and public health facilities.
- Experience with biomedical engineering work
- Experience in working in a non-governmental organization.
- Competent in English highly desirable for liaison with technical support
Work Conditions and benefits
The days and hours of work are Monday to Friday and work from 8:00 to 17:00 with one hour break and weekend off. Any additional hours worked beyond this limit, required and pre-approved in writing by Employee’s supervisor, will be considered and remunerated as overtime compensation.
