Save the Children International in Laos

Mission Statement

Save the Children began its operation in Lao PDR in 1987, and since then we have developed a strong reputation as the leading child rights organization in the country. Our vision is that is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation; and our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

Program Description

Save the Children strive to ensure that Lao children’s rights to education, health, protection, and participation are fulfilled at all times, including focusing on taking action on the climate crisis and mitigating threats in a fast changing environment that have impacted child rights. Our work focuses on the following areas:
  • Child Protection, with a specific emphasis on reducing harmful practices, including early marriage; protecting children from violence, including physical and humiliating punishment and sexual violence; protecting them from trafficking, and from harmful work. The program aims to build life skills, improve gender equity, and establish community-based child protection initiatives.
  • Quality Education by 2030, our primary focus centers on enabling access to quality and equitable education for all, accelerating foundation learning, and improving learning outcomes nationwide, especially for the children most impacted by inequality and discrimination.
  • Health and Nutrition, we are dedicated to ensuring that every child thrives in an environment that safeguards them from preventable health risks, allowing them to grow and develop successfully. Our life cycle approach focuses on the well-being of both children and mothers, addressing key challenges and catalyzing positive change in healthcare practices.
  • Children, Climate Crisis, and Environment, we implement child focused environmental programs across Asia and the Pacific to empower young activists to design and launch public campaigns on issues of their concern, including environmental sustainability and climate action.
