Terms of Reference: Plastic Free Travel video

1.       Project Overview
Swisscontact’s Waste to Value project strengthens the environmental performance in service sector SMEs (hotels, restaurants, cafes and mini-marts) by improving their waste management practices and access to green products. The project further strengthens business operations and improves workplace safety for informal waste pickers increasing their income and quality of livelihood. This is complemented with awareness raising among service sector SMEs and the wider population along with encouraging public-private consultation meetings in the Lao PDR in line with national and municipal government strategies.

Activities take place in the Chanthabuly and Xaysetha districts in Vientiane Capital, and the Vang Vieng district in Vientiane Province to benefit:

  • Service sector SMEs focusing on hotels, restaurants, cafes and mini-marts through reducing operational costs and strengthening their competitive advantage through environmental-friendly solutions.
  • Informal waste pickers through a safer work environment and improved business performance to increase their incomes.

PROJECT COMPONENTS

Component 1: Green Products and Services

Promotion and support to develop and supply innovative green products and services to service sector SMEs, with a focus on hotels, restaurants and cafes that will strengthen their value proposition and competitive advantage through adopting these environmental-friendly solutions.

Component 2: Waste Management

Improve resource efficiency and the management of organic and non-organic waste among targeted SMEs to reduce operational costs and increase the quality and quantity of clean recyclables. Informal waste pickers are also supported to improve workplace safety, business operations and market access to strengthen their livelihoods.

Component 3: Awareness raising and dialogues

Raise awareness on circular economy and increase communication between key project stakeholders from the public and private sectors to strengthen coordination and cooperation, with the aim to increase the demand for environmentally friendly products and services among SMEs and their customers.

The Waste to Value project started implementation in March 2022 and will run until December 2024.

2.       Objectives
In order to promote green practices in the service sector, particularly to small and medium enterprises such as hotels, cafes, restaurants, and minimarts, it is critical to raise environmental awareness of their customer base. The objective of this terms of reference is to develop a support video showcasing a travel lifestyle in Laos, from Vientiane Capital to Vientiane Province, where no single-use plastic is used. This video is meant not only to increase environmental awareness but also to educate the public on the avoidance of single-use plastics during travel. The video will also serve as a practical guide, showcasing the use of environmentally friendly alternatives to single-use plastics while traveling. It will also serve as a promotional tool for local businesses that support and sell eco-friendly products. It aims to enlighten the public about the substantial environmental impact of single-use plastics and the benefits of embracing a plastic-free lifestyle. The video will highlight the beauty and cleanliness of travel destinations when plastic is not used, consequently elevating the allure of these destinations for potential tourists. Lastly, video must be in animation format.

  • Storyboard and Script , Date 7 June 2024
  • 1 High resolution video (Max. 1 min and 30 seconds) – long version, Date 7 August 2024
  • 1 High resolution video (Max. 30 seconds) – short version, Date 7 August 2024

5.       Duration of assignment

  • The assignment will run from May to August 2024.

6.       Budget and remuneration

  • The agency will be hired by Swisscontact according to Swisscontact standards and regulations as specified in a separate contract.

7. Clause for full confidentially

  • During the whole assignment full confidentiality needs to be respected by the agency, no information received during the assignment can go beyond Swisscontact staff, unless agreed upon beforehand in writing.

8.       Proposal content
The language of the proposal is English with maximum 4 pages.
