Theme for the 13th National Health Research Forum:
“Improving Quality of Care”
4th Adolescent Research Day (15 October, 2019)
Theme for 4th Adolescent Research Day:
“Gender Equality among Adolescents– Issues, Challenges and Way forward”
Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR

The 13th National Health Research Forum is an annual event organized by the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao TPHI) and its collaborative partners and supporters.

The 2019 conference is a special occasion where Lao TPHI will link scientific sessions to the following anniversaries with the scientific community: a) the 20 year anniversary of Lao TPHI (NIOPH and IFMT from 1999 to 2019), b) 20 years of collaboration between Lao TPHI and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), and c) 5 years of the EU-LEARN-MCNV project. We trust that the 13th NHRF will support more effective collaboration and will be a forum of linkage between policymakers, public health institutions, relevant sectors outside health, health aids agencies, and civil society organizations. The 13th NHRF will create a platform to discuss the field of health research that may be a catalyst for enhancing and accelerating the achievement of the health sector reform in Laos by 2025.

The theme “Improving Quality of Care” means more than just increased access to care. It means there will be improvement seen in all areas, better progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage. “Improving Quality of Care” also means that different disciplines will share ideas and knowledge; that research and clinical collaboration will be formed and that there will be an increase in policy dialogue for health related challenges.

The 4th Adolescent Research Day, will look into various aspects of gender equality among adolescents and will link them to the Noi 2030 Framework and Noi Ecosystem for achieving the goal of empowering adolescents and young people by 2030, especially adolescent girls. It will provide more insights to the issues and challenges related to gender equality among adolescents and will discuss the way forward for addressing these issues and challenges. The overall goal is to share the existing research evidence on adolescent boys and girls aged 10-19 years for promoting evidence-based policies and programmes that are vital to achieving the well-being of all adolescents. The 4th ARD will also be part of year-long events to celebrate 50 years of UNFPA and 25 years of International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). The 4th ARD will have presentations on the themes of gender equality among adolescents with focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Early marriage, Education, Nutrition and Labour.
