Invitation to Training of Trainers for Young Mothers’ Cur-curriculum on 7 to 11 August

Since late 2015 SCI is implementing the “Adolescents Initi-ative” a multi-sectoral program aiming at improving the life of adolescents from vulnerable, remote communities.
SCI has identified young mothers as a particularly vulnera-ble group and in order to support them in their communities, in 2016 we have produced and piloted a curriculum for fa-cilitators working with young mothers in ethnic communities. The purpose of the content is to develop skills of young mothers in areas related to health, family well-being and expanding economic activities.
The content is delivered in an interactive way and uses stories, visuals, exercises and activities that engage other members of the family, particularly husbands.
The sessions are meant to engage young mothers to build a “Sisterhood” so they are able to draw on each other for sup-port, insights, strategies and advice.
A key thread of the content is improvement of economic activities and managing resources. In doing so, young mothers and their husbands are able to choose from family planning options that lead them to the family size they see as appropriate. Young mothers are also introduced to healthy meal options and positive discipline so they are able to enhance their care of themselves and their families.

Objectives of the training:

 To strengthen the capacities of Lao Civil Society organizations and/or service providers to work with vulnerable young mothers from ethnic communities.
 To identify possible partners to implement life skills services for young mothers in Luang Prabang.
The training will consist of 5 days intensive course in Vientiane with a mix of theory and practice. While the full agenda will be provided to the selected participants, the main topics covered in the training will be:
