HIV Prevention for workers

Last updated:2013-09-19 18:11:04

There are three complementary goals of this project. They are as follows: (a) to protect the dam construction workers in particular, and construction workers in general, from being infected with HIV/AIDS; (b) to improve the collaboration between the union, the Lao Government and the construction company to maximise resources to protect workers from being infected with HIV/AIDS; (c) to assist the LFTU to increase their membership by delivering crucial support like HIV education and to make HIV/AIDS prevention as part of an overall OHS project.

· To develop and support local trainers in the provincial and the construction sites so as to increase their awareness of HIV/AIDS and STD.

· To educate workers to change their attitude and behaviour such that they will be able to avoid risky behaviour and reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS and STD transmission.

· To support the Lao Government’s national HIV/AIDS and STD prevention initiative to selected workers in the dam site.

· To build on and consolidate the results achieved from last year’s HIV pilot program.

· To increase collaboration between the union, the government and the construction company.
