Mission Statement

As the Australian Council of Trade Union`s humanitarian aid agency, APHEDA Union Aid Abroad expresses the Australian union movement`s committment to social justice and international solidarity for human rights and development through support to overseas education, training and development projects, working in partnership with those whose rights to development are restricted or denied.

Programme Description

APHEDA was established in 1984 as the international aid and development agency of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. APHEDA now also uses the name Union Aid Abroad. APHEDA is a non-profit secular NGO supporting partnerships in education, health, socio-economic development, trade union and labour rights in developing countries around the world. Funding is sourced from donations, trade union grants and from bilateral and multilateral donors. In Lao PDR partners are the Lao Women`s Union, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Luang Prabang Province.
