Mission Statement

Our vision is a world in which all people can exercise their right to lead a self-determined life in dignity and justice, free from hunger and poverty.

Civil Society Actors in Cambodia and Laos in cooperation with Welthungerhilfe influence root causes of hunger and poverty at national, regional and global level.

Programme Description

Since its engagement in Laos in 1993 Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has strengthened agriculture and improved food security. Its longstanding experience of working with rural communities has provided WHH with extensive knowledge and understanding that have informed this assessment of future engagement within the region.

WHH’s potential and experience has laid the groundwork to pursue an integrated partner-approach, including both rights-based and social objectives: enabling the rural poor, particularly ethnic minority communities through their own efforts to secure their livelihoods and address the root causes of hunger and poverty.

Within this context, WHH is convinced that further emphasis on advocacy and the integration of rights-based approaches will support a positive transformation of power relations among the various development actors. The engagement of WHH will be transformed within the Regional Programme 2015-2017. It will play a more important role in influencing policy and developing the capacity and ability of its respective partners in Laos to advocate for higher political responsibility including better governance, anti-corruption, peace and distribution of wealth. At the same time WHH will itself advocate at global level for greater responsibility and accountability to protect and to promote good governance.
