Mission Statement

“The Mission of BORDA is to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities and to keep the environment intact through the expansion of Basic Needs Services in the areas of decentralised sanitation, water and energy supply as well as wastewater and solid waste disposal.”

Due to the particular focus on decentralised sanitation, including wastewater treatment and solid waste management, BORDA emphasises its efforts with the slogan: “Improved Sanitation for All”

Programme Description

BORDA Laos cooperates with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to promote improved public health within low income urban and peri-urban settlements and the reduction organic pollution of precious fresh water sources for the benefit of the Lao people and nation.

BORDA Laos supports the development process by building capacity in planning, constructing and maintaining Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Solutions (DEWATS) and by implementing School and Community Based Sanitation (SBS and CBS) service packages on the ground. BORDA's portfolio is expanded with wastewater management for small and medium enterprises (SME), hospitals (HoSan), real estates (ReSan), and other private as well as public entities with need for improved sanitation.

BORDAs service packages include construction of on-site waste water treatment plants, improvement of sanitary facilities, health and hygiene education, as well as capacity building in construction, operation and maintenance. All activities aim to improve livelihoods of communities not yet served with appropriate sanitation solutions as well as strengthening social structures of low income communities in Laos.
