Caritas Luxembourg in Lao PDR

Mission Statement

The work of Caritas is based on the following values:

Caritas is committed to uphold human rights and internationally accepted principles and guidelines of humanitarian aid. The organisation’s mission is to alleviate and prevent in the long run the effects of injustice, distress and poverty in a sustainable way. We provide support when people’s lives, livelihoods, social cohesion, vital infrastructures or the environment are endangered to the point that the affected people can no longer cope with the situation on their own. The assistance of Caritas reaches out to all people regardless of their religion, sex, birth, views, allegiance, age, language or other status.

Caritas works together with suitable national or local partner organisations, which can be government or civil society. These partner organisations support people in need, and involve them in the actions taken on their behalf.

Caritas promotes the competence of its partners and seeks to ensure mutual respect, transparency and readiness to engage in dialogue. Caritas support goes to the people in need and their communities. All support is respectful of local culture, customs and ways of life and avoids creating any state of dependency, conflict or injustice. It promotes gender equality. Activities aim to protect the human environment and basic living conditions. Support is prompt, efficient and sustainable. Caritas is a learning organisation, working in a professional, transparent and results-oriented manner. Caritas is aware of its own social responsibility, and carefully manages its own resources.
